Golden Trail World Series comes to a climax

Who will win the Golden Trail World Series this year? This weekend we will get all the answers. So far Joyce Njeru and Elhousine Elazzaoui are in pole position.

Joyce Njeru strengthened her lead today, October 17, 2024, by winning the 7 kilometres long prologue in Ascona-Locarna, Switzerland. The Kenyan Atletica Saluzzo trail runner beat Lauren Gregory (USA) by half a minute; 31:37 versus 32:07. Madalina Florea, the number two in the general standing, finished third in 32:14. Sophia Laukli (USA), last year’s winner of the Golden Trail World Series, finished fourth in 32:18.

Florea trailing

With her fifth place Judith Wyder (Swiss) is the number three in the general standing. She has the same amount of points as Malen Osa (Spain). With 300 points for the winner both runners still have a chance to win the Golden Trail World Series. But it does mean Njeru has to have a bad race, as the Kenyan is leading with 700 points; 48 more than Florea, and 135 more than Wyder and Osa.

The women’s final is on Saturday; a 23,5 kilometres long trail run, with 1.400 metres of elevation.

Elazzaoui versus Kipngeno

The men are running their prologue tomorrow, Friday October 18, 2024. Their final is on Sunday. The winner of the prologue gets 100 points, the number two 94, the number three 88.

Elhousine Elazzaoui is leading with 600 points, but Patrick Kipngeno is on his heels. The Kenyan Run2gether athlete had 588 points. Philemon Kiriago is third with 552 points. Last year’s winner Remi Bonnet is the number four with 520 points.
