The Grampians Peak Trail 100 (GPT100) Miler in Halls Gap, Australia, has become part of the Gran Canaria World Trail Majors. The GPT100 is the first World Trail Major race in Oceania. There were already races in Africa (Ultra Trail Cape Town, Madeira Island Ultra Trail and Transgrancanaria), Asia (Hong Kong100, Mt. Fuji 100), Europe (Swiss Canyon Trail, South Downs Way 100, Grand Raid des Pyrenees), and North America (Black Canyon Ultras and Quebec Mega Trail).
The Grampians Peaks Trail 100 Miler is a technical 162 kilometre point-to-point race crossing the entirety of the Grampians / Gariwerd National Park in Victoria, Australia, from north to south. The race will be held from Thursday 6 till Sunday 9 November 2025.
Eucalyptus forest
The national park is like an island, with rocky outcrops, coloured granite cliffs and eucalyptus forests. It is a refuge for kangaroos, echidnas, cockatoos, and emus. About 1,000 different plants and shrubs can be found in this territory and a good number are unique to the area. Surrounding the National Park is mainly flat and fertile land used for agricultural and livestock farming.
The GPT100 follows the Grampians Peaks Trail, which is 162 kilometres long, with 7.700m+ of vertical gain. The trail was established in 2021. For hikers there are twelve intermediate campsites, so they can do the trail in thirteen days. For the ultra runners there will be a time limit of 53 hours. The trail follows the ridgelines, which makes it technical, yet offers spectacular views.
50k and relay
Besides the hundred miler there will be a 50 kilometres race and a 100-mile race team relay.
The new season of the World Trail Majors kicks off with the Hong Kong 100, on January 16 2025. This year the series was won by Miguel Arsenio and Courtney Dauwalter.
