Lin Chen and Hau Ha Thi share victory Malaysia 100

Hau Ha Thi (Vietnam), Lin Chen and Ji Duo (both China) have won the Malaysia 100 Ultra Trail, that’s part of the UTMB World Series. Wilsen Singgin (Malaysia) and Priya Rai (Nepal) were the fastest ultra runners on the Malaysia50.

Lin Chen and Hau Ha Thi ran a super strong race. The Chinese Adidas Terrex athlete, who won last month the 100k at Trans Jeju and finished fourth at the UTMB, and the Vietnamese MUDE runner, fourth at the UTMB CCC, joined forces as both were struggling to complete the 97 kilometres, with 4.973 metres of climbing. “Trail running is not just a race, but a journey of friendship, helping and sharing”, Hau Ha Thi said after the race. “Lin Chen helped me to catch leeches when they swarmed my feet, with the batteries for the headlights. I helped her to bandage her wounds and we shared our nutrition. It makes this race a valuable experience that I will always cherish.”

Behind Chen and Hau Ha Thi, who both finished in 13 hours, 15 minutes and 17 seconds, Angelie Cabalo (Philippines) grabbed third place. She crossed the line in Jalan Kota Taiping in 16:14:38.

Ji Duo by far strongest

Just like Chen and Hau Ha Thi, Duo was in a class of his own. The Cinese winner of Mount Yun 100k earlier this year, was with his time of 11 hours, 1 minute and 18 seconds almost an hour faster than the number two Xingzhi Bai (China). Bai needed 12:00:49. Milton Amat (Malaysia) finished a minute and a half later as third in 12:02:18. Hau Ha Thi and Chen came in fourth and fifth overall.

Duo used Malaysia as a warm-up for the UTMB race in Thailand in December: This is my first time running on the trails in Malaysia. I was worried about the humidity and the heat, but it wasn’t too bad in the nighttime, and I could run well”, he said in his finish line interview: “The last hours in the daytime up and down Maxwell Hill twice was very hot and very hard. I learned about Malaysia as a child and saw it on TV and always wanted to visit, so I am very happy to finally come and experience it for myself. I didn’t come to win but I am very happy to take the win. This year I DNF’d at the UTMB Mont Blanc CCC race, I am still wearing my wristband as a reminder because it still stings, and I will be back next year for revenge.”

Priya Rai third overall

Wilsen Singgin won the 51k (2.801m+) race in 6:28:24. Kristian Jorgensen (Denmark) came in second in 6:35:43. The third place was for Chris Timms (Great Britain) in 8:10:16. Priya Rai (Nepal) finished just before him as first woman and third overall. She clocked 8:10:11. Qin Tian (China) took second spot in 8:50:30. The third place was for Sooji Park (Republic of Korea) in 8:53:14.
