Richard Cook and Emma Patterson win Ultra Trail Whistler

Emma Patterson and Richard Cook (both United States of America) have won the Ultra Trail Whistler 2024 in Canada. Cook needed seven hours, 42 minutes and 45 seconds to run the 69 kilometres (3.850m+) up and over Whistler Mountain and around the Harmony Lake Loop. Patterson did it in 9:10:17, finishing 12th overall.

Elliot Holtham (Canada) passed the top of Whistler mountain after the first and after the second passage in the lead. However, on the descent to the Middle of Nowhere Cook passed him and easily ran away from the Canadian. Behind Holtham Luke Nichols (Australia) was in third place, without any prospect of a better ranking.

Holtham crossed the finish line in 7:54:10. Nichols, the number 14 of the Ultra Trail Australia 100k, did that in 8:18:45.

First big win

For Cook it meant his first big win in the UTMB World Series. One with emotional values: “That was fabulous. I’m originally from New England and Whistler means a ton to me. My dad brought me as a kid out here several times. The sunrise came up over the mountains and it was incredible. It’s one of the prettiest races I’ve ever run. Such a great variety of terrain, a lot of technical parts too. It was super, super fun.”
