Jazmine Lowther (Canada) and David Sinclair (USA) have won the Speedgoat Mountain Races in the United States of America, part of the UTMB World Series. Sinclair was the first runner ever to finish in 5 hours: 4:57:35, breaking the course record set by Adam Peterman in 2021 (5:04:31).
Sinclair knew what was needed to break Peterman’s course record, as he won Speedgoat in 2022 and finished second in 2021. In 2022 he already improved his time by 9 minutes; 5:18:57 versus 5:09:13. This time he showed the same progression, by staying under 5 hours. Which was for Sinclair the only battle of the day, as the rest of the runners simply couldn’t follow him. Sinclair: “I kind of nailed the pacing, nailed the nutrition, nailed the cooling strategy. It was a perfect day out there. I just love this race, one of the hardest 50k’s in the country. It’s got a little bit of everything: beautiful scenery, hard technical parts, a couple runnable smooth sections.”

Broken Arrow Skyrace
That Sinclair is in great form, he showed recently by winning the Broken Arrow Skyrace 46k. In that race Samuel Hendry (Canada) ran the 23k. Yesterday he tried to compete with Sinclair, but soon had to let him go. He finished almost half an hour later as second in 5:24:57.
Scott Patterson (USA) completed the podium. He finished in 5:32:26. Former winner and course record holder Adam Peterman (USA) had to content himself this time with the sixth place. He finished in 5:46:57.
Lowther beats all the Americans
Lowther was one of the few non-Americans starting on the Snowbird Plaza Deck. Alex Roudanya (Mexico) and Lifan Zhang (China) were the only other non-American trail runners running Speedgoat. But no matter what the almost hundred Americans tried, Lowther was just too fast. The number two of last year’s Transgrancanaria 100 miles finished in 6 hours, 15 minutes and 5 seconds.
Mali Noyes finished second in 6:22:31. Last year Noyes was also second, back then behind Helen Mino Faukner. Third place was for Kodi Kleven in 6:24:12. Emkay Sullivan, up front, seen as one of the main competitors missed the podium. The number two of the Hoka Canyons Endurance Runs 100, finished fourth in 6:35:09.
