Two new UTMB World Series races; Colombia and Mexico

UTMB has added a new country to their World Series; Columbia. In May next year, 2025, trail runners can run the Quindío Trail in Salento, Colombia. In Mexico UTMB has added a second race to their calendar: Chihuahua.

The race in Mexico will be held from October 2 to 4, 2025 and will be held on the sacred lands of the Rarámuri; the Copper Canyons and the Sierra Madre Occidental. Those who have read Born to Run by Christopher McDougall, will precisely know where this is. McDougall regards the Rarámuri as the best ultra runners in the world.

“Participants will not only push their limits, but also immerse themselves in a cultural experience like no other; running alongside the descendants of the original ultrarunners in the majestic, rugged terrain of the Copper Canyons that have shaped their legendary endurance”, says Race Director Alejandro Ochoa. “The race is a true journey through the ancestral lands of the Rarámuri, whose deep connection to running has inspired the world. It is a celebration of spirit, culture, and the raw beauty of Chihuahua.”

Chihuahua offers six distances: 155 kilometres (8.000m+), 92 kilometres (4.400m+), 56 kilometres (2.600m+), 36 kilometres (1.700m+), 20 kilometres (800m+) and 8,5 kilometres (200m+).

Chihuahua will be the second race in Mexico. The other race is Puerto Vallarta. This race, on the West coast of Mexico, will take place this year, 2024, from November 7 to November 9.

UTMB Colombia

The Quindio Trail in Colombia will be held in the Andean region, with Salento as starting place. These trails will go through the heart of the UNESCO-listed Coffee Culture Landscape of Colombia. “This race will be a unique adventure of the rich local biodiversity these regions and these mountains have to offer”, says Race Director Mauricio Quintero.

UTMB Colombia offers five races: Buenavista UBS 125 kilometres (6.000m+), Cordoba DCS 84 kilometres (4.707m+), Cocora RCS 52 kilometres (2.300m+), Santa Rita TSS 24 kilometres (1.200m+) and the Salento Trail CSS 14 kilometres (560m+)

The race, which took place in the last 5 years in Villa General Belgrano, will move three thousand kilometres south to Ushuaia. The six new races will go through the Andes mountains.
